Originally written in 1957 by Danish-born American Else Holmelund Minarik this series continues to warm the hearts of beginning readers everywhere. Similar to the English version which is advertised as an "I can read" book, this Chinese version is similarly simple and suited for young Mandarin learners.
The first four books in this set each contain four short stories. Each story is about 13 pages and can be enjoyed independently of the others. The fifth book,《亲爱的小熊──给小熊的吻》A Kiss for Little Bear, only contains one 27-page story, but, each page contains a large illustration and only 1-4 lines of text.
In all of the books, the simple highly repetitive dialogue as well as the adorable hatched illustrations serve as great aids to young Mandarin learners.
Similar to Frog and Toad, this series is highly recommended by parents and educators alike. Want to know more? Check out this in-depth review of the Chinese edition of Little Bear by Betty Choi of CHALK Academy.
