Hey, Little Ant 嗨!小蚂蚁 (hēi!xiǎo mǎ yǐ)

In this rhyming Chinese text masterfully translated from an original English story, a boy converses with a tiny ant that he is about to squish. This story encourages empathy by challenging kids to look at life from other perspectives & respect all forms of life.
Boy: Hey, little ant in the crack. Can you hear me? Can you talk back? See my shoe, can you see that? Well now it’s gonna squish you flat!”
Ant: Please, oh, Please, do not squish me. Change your mind and let me be. I’m on my way with a crumb of pie. Please, oh, please, don’t make me die! “

Boy: Anyone knows that ants can ‘t feel. You are so tiny that you don’t look real. I am so big and you’re so small, I don’t think it will hurt at all!

The ant proceeds to explain how his family and community depend on him, and how his life is much like the boy’s life. Should the ant get squished? The book leaves the kid with the raised-up shoe. What do you think the kid should do?

Is my child ready for this set?

"Read to me": Ages 3+ will enjoy having these books read to them either by Luka or a caregiver.

"Read by myself": The limited text per page and the prevalence of common language from daily life make it a good "bridge book" for readers. The involved plot and detailed illustrations will capture the interest of experienced readers, ages 5+.
