阿莫的生病日 (ā mò de shēng bìng rì) A Sick Day for Amos McGee
Written and illustrated by husband-wife pair Philip and Erin Stead, this classic, gentle story is a celebration of friendship.
阿莫(ā mò; Amos)is an elderly zookeeper who enjoys his daily routine. Everyday, he makes time to interact with each of the animals. One day, Amos catches a cold that forces him to stay in and miss his daily visits with his animal friends. The animals reciprocate Amos’ kindness by taking the bus to visit their caretaker. Amos, in striped pajamas with a red stuffy nose, looks as vulnerable as a child. The animals all modify their own activities to adjust to his needs. In the end, the friends all fall asleep in a big warm huddle.
The mix of detailed pencil work and woodblock printing in this Caldecott-winning book convey a peaceful tone, yet surprisingly expressive characters.
